March 2018

Over the last three months, significant progress has been made on the upgrade of our facility.

  • Work has continued on installing process air extraction ducts throughout the plant.
  • We have begun installing electrical and cooling water services, including cooling towers and pumps.
  • We have been progressing on the main building structure. The structure will be completed over the coming months.
  • We have started installing machinery and conveyor systems. This work will also continue over the coming months.
  • Construction of phase 2 and 3 tunnel building has commenced.

August 2017

Significant progress is continuing to be made on the upgrade of our facility. Over the last three months we reached the following key milestones:

  • The scrubber units are now in place and exhaust air ducts are being installed.
  • The tunnel walls are complete and work has nearly finished on the tunnel roofs.
  • The cooling plantroom structure is complete and pipework fabrication has commenced.
  • Work has begun on building a new electrical switchroom.
  • Machinery and conveyor systems are being manufactured and electrical engineering designs are almost complete.

May 2017

Since February 2017, we have we have made significant progress on the upgrade to our facility.

  • The scrubber pits are now complete and are ready for the placement of six scrubbers. Work is continuing on the biofilter.
  • All tunnel floors, including the civil works to develop an under-floor heating and aeration system, are also complete.
  • The construction of tunnel walls is well underway – five walls have now been poured and the remaining walls will be erected shortly.
  • The preparation for the installation of the cooling plantroom has also been advanced – the floor of the plantroom has been poured and steelwork is onsite, ready to install.
  • Design work relating to our machinery and conveyor systems has started. We have continued to progress electrical engineering designs and the designs of other associated services for later parts of the upgrade. This work will continue over the coming months.

February 2017

Since November 2016, we have undertaken construction work on all three key components of the upgrade to our facility.

  1. The structure to enclose our raw materials storage area was completed in December 2016. This is the area where we will store all our potentially odorous raw materials such as poultry manure and horse stable bedding.
  2. The construction of the scrubber and biofilter has also progressed. All concrete works for the scrubber have been completed, including filling behind the scrubber tank walls. We have also run all the services needed for the plant area. We are now ready to install the scrubbers structural steel framework. The ground of the biofilter has been levelled and prepared for construction.
  1. The working slabs for the new tunnels have been laid and civil works have commenced to develop an underfloor heating and aeration system for the tunnels. The next step will be to build the tunnel walls.

Other activities: We have also continued to finalise engineering designs including electrical, cooling and other services. This work will continue over the coming months.

November 2016

Since September we have undertaken construction work on all three components of the upgrade to our facility.

  1. Work is well advanced to fully enclose our raw materials storage area. The steel framework of the storage area has been built and we are currently cladding the building. The construction is due to be completed by the end of the year. The straw bales, which help reduce our noise and visual impact on the immediately adjacent neighbours will remain outdoors.
  2. Construction of the biofilter and scrubbers is also underway. To-date, we have created the base for the biofilter and for the scrubber tank pits which has been concreted. The wall of the scrubber plant room has also been completed. We are now in the process of filling behind the scrubber tank walls and running the services needed for the plant area. Once this is done we will be ready to pour the concrete slab and start preparation for the structural steel.
  3. In relation to the building of new tunnels, the area has been levelled and prepared so that the base can be compacted. Once completed we will construct the main slab over the tunnel area, including under-floor heating and the aeration system. We will then commence work on the tunnel walls.

Other activities: Other work that has been undertaken during this period includes finalising designs and getting construction certificates for specific components of the mitigation technology, and the manufacture of component parts. This work will continue over the coming months.

September 2016

Construction commenced in late August

Elf Farm Supplies began upgrading its Mulgrave facility in late August 2016 to install the latest technology to manage odour generated at the site.

  • Apex Building Systems in Windsor have commenced work on the construction of the raw materials enclosure. It is expected that the enclosure will be completed by December 2016.
  • Earthworks have commenced for the new tunnel building.
  • The Biofilter wall footings have been excavated and poured, and the wall formwork is underway. Concrete is supplied by Constable Bros in South Windsor
  • The ammonia scrubber footings and slabs have been excavated and poured.
  • Approximately 500 new trees have been planted as part of our revegetation works.

We will continue to source local suppliers and contractors throughout this project, where possible.
